Individual therapy · Santa Barbara · California
A little more room to be yourself.
Individual therapy offers a place to slow down and listen to your own experience. Together, we can explore what feels difficult, notice patterns in your relationships, and make room for the changes you hope for.
I work with adults and adolescents in Santa Barbara, with online therapy available throughout California. You may come with anxiety, grief, questions about identity, or simply a feeling that something needs to change. You do not need to know exactly where to begin.

What brings you here?
You may be facing something specific, or you may find it hard to name what feels off. Individual therapy offers time and attention for both.
- Anxiety, stress, or feeling overwhelmed
- Grief, loss, or a difficult transition
- Patterns that keep repeating in relationships
- Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
- Questions about identity, meaning, or direction
- A wish to live with more openness and self-trust
How I work
What we’ll pay attention to
We can begin with what matters most to you and allow the work to take shape from there.
Draft for Jamie’s review- The patterns that keep bringing you back to the same place: what sets them in motion, what they protect, and what may become possible when you have more choice in how you respond.
- How you treat yourself when things go wrong: what you ask of yourself, what you allow, and where you learned the difference.
- What your body may be telling you before you have words for it. Attention to breath, tension, and pace can be part of the work, at a speed that feels right to you.
- What happens between us in the room. Therapy begins with a relationship, and we’ll attend to it as carefully as we do anything you bring from the rest of your life.
Approach
How I work
My approach is humanistic and person-centered. I bring warmth, curiosity, compassion, and clinical experience; you bring your knowledge of your own life. Our work grows through that relationship.
Depending on what you need, we may draw on practical tools from cognitive behavioral therapy, attention to the body and nervous system, or an exploration of attachment and relationship patterns. A trauma-informed approach keeps your pace and choices central.
For clients who find it helpful, animal-assisted therapy with Sophie can offer another source of steadiness and connection.
Getting started
Our first conversations
Before we meet
You’ll receive intake paperwork to complete online, including background information, consent forms, and room to share what is bringing you to therapy.
When we meet
We’ll talk about what has been difficult, what is working, and what you hope may change. There is also room to discuss what you need from me and whether our relationship feels like a good fit. You do not need to tell your whole story at once.
As we continue
We’ll return to your goals and adjust the pace as the work unfolds. Your questions and honest feedback are welcome parts of the process.
